A guy in Brazil sent me a video. He claims it shows two teenage girls when they were pulled under under water and killed by an Anaconda snake.

It was recorded on a cell phone, and looks pretty authentic, but is this for real or is it fake? that’s what I want to know.

I looked to my normal sources at Snopes, but nothing about this incident was recorded there. So I turned my attention south – to Brazil – where I found many reports of the incident.

The girls were real enough. They were two teenagers from southern Brazil. They went with friends to go swimming in a local river. Everyone was having a good time, until one of the girls screamed. Then the other girl screamed and seconds later they were both gone!

The police eventually found the girl’s bodies. An autopsy was performed and the cause of death for both girls was recorded as accidental drowning.

Looking carefully through the video I spotted a number of clues that tells me something was really in that water.

Just before the girls disappeared, some of their friends were playing with a log on the other side of the river. And right here, something that looks like a snake appears to be disturbed and moves into the water.

Then here, just before the first girl screams, something pops its head out of the water. Under careful examination, it looks like it is an authentic part of the original video and not added on later with photoshop or anything like that.

The creature disappears back under the water and that is when the girls start to scream.

Ok, so while the families of these girls and most of the local townfolks are convinced it was an anaconda that attacked the girls, I am not so sure. Anacondas kill their prey for food and they kill by first hooking their teeth into you and then coiling around you and squeezing you to death. Neither of these girl’s bodies showed any signs of being bitten by a snake. Nor did it look like anything tried to eat them.

The death of these two girls is tragic and I am sure their families still miss them greatly, but as for the claim that they were killed by an Anaconda — That’s just not realistic.

Can a man be eaten by a giant snake? Are these man-eating snake tales real or false? Reticulated pythons and green anacondas are huge indeed, growing over 20 feet long, but most of the stories you hear of humans being swallowed and eaten by massive snakes are urban legends.

Recently there have been many stories about people being swallowed by giant man eating snakes however many of these tales often lack any real credibility. The most popular story going around is about a security guard being found inside of a giant 49-ft python.

This claim is false. First you see this picture which is actually of an African Rock Python that was caught in an electric fence in Limpopo Province, South Africa. Someone photo-shopped a security guard into this picture.

In addition to this story, a picture of a 49-ft python in Indonesia is shown, which was captured and put into captivity. But after further research, it is revealed the this snake is actually less than 32 feet.

One story, however, that actually does have real credibility is that of the 10 year old South African boy who was attacked, swallowed and eaten by a very large African Rock Python in 2002. There are multiple links backing up this incident below. The basis of the story was there were several kids playing in a field outside of Durban when one of them was attacked by a giant snake.

The other kids climbed in a tree to hid while for 3 hours they watched as the 10 year old boy was devoured and eaten by the big snake. Once the snake finished eating the boy, it slithered away and the kids were able to escape and find help.

And finally, there was another case documented where a Brazilian man arrived just in time to see a giant python swallowing his grandson head first and was able to save him. The link to that YouTube video is below.

ANACONDA

Anacondas make their home in the Amazon jungles of South America and are part of the Boa Constrictor family. Anacondas live near rivers, lakes and swamps and like to live alone. Water is their main escape method when confronted with danger. Rather than attacking they will choose to slide into the water unnoticed, if possible.
Anacondas eat amphibious animals, like frogs & toads, as well as fish, caiman, birds, ducks and turtles.

The average size of one of these snake-giants is 6.1 m (20 feet) long and 148.5 kg. (300 pounds)!

Anacondas give birth to live young, around 24-35 at a time.

Anacondas are very difficult for scientists to study or even find. They are really quiet and leave no trail. They spend a lot of their time in the dark waters of their habitat.

It was a warm dark night. 6 month old Nini slept quietly in her crib with her older brother and sister in their hut. Little did she know that she awaken and only child.

Did you know there is a tribe in the Philippines where over 25% of the men have been attacked by a large constrictor snake?

The tribe is the Agta who live in isolated mountain areas of the Philippines and considered the earliest inhabitants of the country
In 1976 Anthropologist Thomas Hedland interviewed the Agta extensively on the subject of giant snake attacks.

Living in such close proximity to these giant pythons makes the Agta more susceptible to attack than most humans forcing them to learn how to defend themselves against the belly crawling beasts.

But even though these monster reptiles feed primarily on small mammals like wild pigs the Agta are a small race of people.

The average Agta tribesman is under 5 feet tall and weighs less than 100 pounds, which means there isn’t much difference in size when comparing them to a wild pig.

Thomas and his wife Janet spend over 24 years [1962-1986] among the tribesmen, documenting some amazing reports.
Of the 600 tribal people he interviewed 120 of them.

2 men had been attacked twice, 15 bitten and 11 had permanent scars to forever remind them of these deadly snakes.

Between 1934 and 1973 6 Agta members had been killed by a giant snake attack.

One man was found still digesting inside the body of a massive python.

And perhaps the most tragic incident was the evening a man named Teteng walked into his children’s hut.

Something you only see in horror films, Teteng found his son and one of his daughters dead on the floor.

A huge killer snake had one of his children wrapped in it’s coils and had began swallowing her head first.

The father pulled out his bolo knife and frantically slashed the snake into pieces, but it was too late…his baby daughter Nini’s siblings, were dead.

What kind of giant snake could eat a man whole?
That would be the world’s longest snake, a reticulated python.
Now while large constrictor snakes are known for being docile and ambush only predators, Thomas Headland’s research shows that in this area of the world, these pythons seem to be much more aggressive than usual.

Thomas Hedland was quoted saying: I’ve lived in the rainforest longer than any American scientist. I’ve seen things out there that I saw in Tarzan movies when I was a kid.

Three or four times, the pythons came into camp and killed chickens. One time, a man saw a snake coiled around his dog, and he killed it was a machete. My wife’s killed one python and I’ve killed one.

The largest python he ever saw was a 23 foot [7 meter] retic that was shot and killed by his neighbor. This was the 3rd largest on record at the time.

This thing is massive, could you imagine living in constant fear of a snake this size coming out of the brush and biting your leg.
