A woman calls 9-1-1 to report that her granddaughter had just been attacked by chickens. The little girl is expected to be fine, but NewsChannel 9 was there as the humane society tried to solve the mystery of who the birds belong to.2-year-old Emberly is more shaken up than anything after her grandmother says she got bombarded by chickens while playing outside in the front yard of their Dallas Bay home.Darlene Keedy says over the last three months, birds have been breeding like rabbits. There started out being 4, and now we’ve got between 7 and 8. They are multiplying, said Keedy, Emberly’s grandmother. Keedy she’s never had any major problems with them clucking around her home or her neighbor’s yards until Thursday morning when they lashed out at her 2-year-old granddaughter. But after hearing Keedy’s run-through of what happened, it seems Emberly may have been egging them on. She was in the house and saw the chickens through the door, and she came out to chase them like they usually do and one of the meaner ones decided to attack her, said Keedy.Emberly got a few pecks on her left arm and another scrape above her cheekbone, but one scratch on her right cheek was too close a call for Keedy. That’s why she called police to find out if the feathered friends are free-roaming.But it wasn’t a job for the men in blue, so the humane society checked out the chicken situation and found that the birds do, in fact, have a home just a few houses down from where they encountered Emberly.The owners are going to keep them contained from now on. At first, we were going to trap them and bring them to our shelter, but the owner said that they will keep them in from this point forward, said Guy Bilyeu, the executive director of the Humane Educational Society.The owners of the birds didn’t break any laws, so the incident would be a civil matter. But if the chickens or roosters get loose and become violent again, then the humane society will get involved.By Natalie Jenereski
